The new Machinery Regulation, which came into force in 2023 on a transitional basis, now provides for the digital distribution of product information, in particular of instruction manuals.

Excerpt from the new Machinery Regulation

When the instructions for use are provided in digital format, the manufacturer shall: ; (

1. mark on the machinery or related product, or, where that is not possible, on its packaging or in an accompanying document, how to access the digital instructions
2. clearly describe which version of the instructions corresponds to the machine product model;
3. Providing instructions in a format which allows the end user to download and save them on an electronic device so that they are accessible at any time, particularly in the event of a machine breakdown. This also applies to machinery featuring instruction manuals integrated into the machine's software.
4. make them accessible online during the expected lifetime of the machinery or related product and for at least 10 years after the placing on the market of the machinery or related product.
